Total sales for all stores in January 2011 stood at 142,057 million yen, a 7.8% increase on a year-on-year basis. Consolidated net sales for the existing stores climbed 4.8% year on year. Average daily sales per stores (all stores) were 486 thousand yen. The average number of customers per store (existing stores) rose by 1.1% compared with the same month last year to 809, and average sales per customer (existing stores) grew 3.8% year on year, to 581 yen.
Net sales for the existing stores in the LAWSON STORE 100 chain increased 1.1% from a year earlier, while the number of customers rose by 0.2% and sales per customer grew by 0.9%, respectively.
Sales of cigarettes increased by approximately 15%, showing an earlier-than-expected recovery. Sales of non-tobacco products also increased year on year.
Sales in the rice dishes and noodles category were significantly higher than a year earlier. Rice balls, including those made with the branded rice, Niigata-grown Koshihikari, contributed greatly to this growth. Sales of the newly launched series of chilled lunch boxes recorded robust sales.
Sales in the over-the-counter fast food category continued to increase year on year, driven by L-Chiki fried chicken, which enjoyed the favorable effects of a special sales promotion, as well as oden hot pot.
The dessert category recorded far higher sales than a year earlier. The newly launched Amao-Strawberry Roll Cake was a hit, and our original desserts including the Premium Roll Cake Series continued to show a strong performance.
As of January 31, 2011, the LAWSON Group was comprised of 9,982 stores in Japan, including 90 NATURAL LAWSON stores, 1,008 LAWSON STORES 100 stores and 42 SHOP99 stores.
Ninety-nine Plus Inc. operated a total of 1,050 stores, of which the number of new stores and closed stores were 12 and 1, respectively.
LAWSON is running the Doraemon Campaign from February 15 through 28 , 2011.
The financial results for the fiscal year ending February 28, 2011 are scheduled to be announced on April 14, 2011.
