The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in June 2014 amounted to 167,843 million yen, 97.2% of the same period last year. Net sales of existing stores were 95.3% of the same period last year. Average daily sales per store (all stores) amounted to 524 thousand yen. The average number of customers per store (existing stores) was 864, 96.8% of the same period last year. The average spending per customer (existing stores) was 571 yen, 98.5% of the same period last year. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan, which had been disclosed till last month as the non-consolidated net sales, were 95.3% of the same period last year.
Existing store sales fell sharply year on year in June, following a contraction in cigarette sales and changes to the timing for recording sales of concert tickets. However, if you exclude these two factors, existing store sales held steady at the previous year’s level in June, and gross profit continued to improve favorably.

The fall in cigarette sales accounted for around 1.5 points of the year-on-year fall in existing store sales. The fall in concert ticket sales accounted for approximately 3.5 points of the year-on-year fall in existing sales, as the recording period for a large proportion of the tickets sold was shifted to July and August.
Meanwhile, the over-the-counter fast food category reported a strong year-on-year gain in sales, thanks to the overwhelming popularity of our “Genkotsu-croquettes” made from 100% Kita-Akari potatoes from the northern island of Hokkaido, and also strong sales of MACHI café coffee, made with beans ground freshly by staff in individual stores.
Our bakery category also generated a strong year-on-year sales gain, thanks to strong sales of the newly launched Pure Sandwiches and Bran Sandwiches items. Pure Series, including Pure Sandwiches, is a superior, additive-free bakery range made with locally sourced ingredients.
Sales in the ice-cream category also rose sharply year on year, thanks to continued strong sales of our UCHI Café Frappe frozen drink series, which are then served heated.
The rice crackers and baked goods category recorded a sharp gain in sales year on year, thanks to the hit series of original healthy sweets, all with low sugar, calorie or salt content, marketed under the NATURAL LAWSON brand.
As of June 30, 2014, the Lawson Group had 11,873 stores in Japan, including 109 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 1,181 LAWSON MART/LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Regarding the business of LAWSON/LAWSON STORE100 in June, existing store sales amounted to 95.6% of the same period last year (number of customers: 94.4%; spending per customer: 101.3%). In June, we opened 1 store and closed 17 stores.
With the aim of expanding the customer base, Lawson is promoting the ‘Hello Kitty Campaign’ from June 17 to August 25.
