Total sales for November 2007 were 115,515 million yen, up 0.6% year on year. Existing store sales decreased 1.8% and average daily sales per store were 459,000 yen. The average number of customers per store per day was 795, down 1.1%, and the average amount spent per customer was 574 yen, down 0.8%.
In the rice dishes category, sales of rice balls were on a recovery track, but boxed lunches continued to exhibit a lackluster performance. On November 13, LAWSON launched a new sushi brand called Norimaki Jiro Shoten. Under this brand, LAWSON will renew products, integrate product packaging and launch new products to expand its customer base.
Due to many warm days during the first half of the month, sales of oden (a Japanese hotpot dish) and Chinese steamed buns declined
The dessert category continued to perform well.
In December, LAWSON will continue to strengthen merchandise assortments that are matched to individual store locations. LAWSON will also start selling seasonal products, such as Christmas cakes and New Year's cards. Also, December 1 saw the start of Miffy Goods Present Campaign
which runs through the end of January, whereby customers collect points when they purchase selected items and exchange them for Miffy-themed free gifts.
As of November 30, 2007, in addition to our nationwide network of regular LAWSON stores, we had 93 NATURAL LAWSON and 72 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
LAWSON plans to announce its third-quarter results for the fiscal year ending February 29, 2008 on January 8, 2008.
The monthly business report for December 2007 will be released on January 11, 2008.
