Total sales for March 2008 were 123,147 million yen, up 2.8% year on year. Existing store sales increased 1.2% and average daily sales per store were 476,000 yen. The average amount spent per customer was 595 yen, up 1.1%, and the average number of customers per store per day was 791, up 0.1%.
Sales in the rice dishes category were up as a whole on the previous month with rice balls turning in a notably strong performance.
In the fast food category, sales were down from March 2007 when new products boosted sales.
The Spring Rilakkuma Fair campaign launched on March 4 drove strong sales in the target categories of prepared breads, bakery items, desserts and confectionery. The campaign is scheduled to end on May 6.
On March 31, 2008, LAWSON announced voluntary plans to reduce CO2 emissions per store by 10% from 2006 levels by 2012 and is now undertaking various initiatives to achieve this goal.
In April, in addition to a campaign with a 20 yen discount on fried chicken products and other special offers, we will be introducing a 550 yen boxed lunch with 30 different ingredients, a hijiki seaweed and mixed grain salad and other health-conscious products.
As of March 31, 2008, in addition to our nationwide network of regular LAWSON stores, we had 92 NATURAL LAWSON and 72 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
