Total sales for February 2010 were 124,066 million yen, down 2.6% year on year. Existing store sales on a consolidated basis decreased 4.4% (and 4.5% on a non-consolidated basis) and average daily sales per store were 474,000 yen. The rice dishes category once again saw an improvement in sales from the previous month, reflecting strong showings by products such as the Surprise Product Development Project's Sumibi Shitate no Yakitori Bowl (charcoal grilled chicken on rice; 498 yen (incl. tax)) and Yakibuta Tamago Meshi (grilled pork and egg on rice; 498 yen (incl. tax)). The latter was the winning entry from the Crew Bento Contest, which took entries from our crew part-time and casual LAWSON store staff around the country.
Total sales in the cooked noodles category were up year on year again on the back of customer support for basic products such as Yokubari Napolitan (398 yen (incl. tax)) and new added-value products such as Herb Chicken and Tomato Cream Fettucine (450 yen (incl. tax)).
The dessert category continued to see strong sales, particularly of Uchi Café SWEETS products such as the new Premium Chocolate Roll Cake (160 yen (incl. tax)).
Sales were strong for the limited edition original LAWSON snacks that went on sale as part of the One Piece Treasure Campaign launched on February 2.
As of February 28, 2010, there were 9,761 stores in the LAWSON Group in Japan, including 89 NATURAL LAWSON stores, 878 LAWSON STORE100 stores and 118 SHOP99 stores.
