Total sales at all stores in June 2012 amounted to 165,220 million yen, 104.3% of the same period last year.  Consolidated net sales of existing stores were 98.2.% of the same period last year.  Average daily sales per store (all stores) amounted to 547 thousand yen.  The average number of customer per store (existing stores) was 918, 96.2% of the same period last year. The average spending per customer (existing stores) was 572 yen, 102.0% of the same period last year.

Consolidated net sales of existing stores decreased year on year due to decline in cigarette sales. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, sales excluding cigarettes remained flat year on year. 

Existing stores sales by merchandise category were as follows.

Continuing from the previous month, sales of over-the-counter fast food and delicatessen exceeded 100% of the same month last year. In particular, we saw significant sales growth of over-the-counter fast food as compared to last year as a result of our continuous efforts to enhance prepared food items and strong sales of fried chicken advertised through TV commercials.

Sales of private brand “Lawson select,” which includes prepared food, daily necessities and beverages, continued to be robust.

In perishable food category, enhancement of the fresh food-type LAWSON stores contributed to a substantial increase in sales.

Sales of cigarettes declined year on year since we had a strong cigarette sales last June due to the recovery of cigarette supply after the earthquake. We expect our cigarette sales to gradually recover going forward.

As of June 30, 2012, the Lawson Group had 10,778 stores in Japan, including 101 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 1,182 LAWSON STORE 100 stores.

Existing store sales of Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. amounted to 97.2% of same period last year (number of customers: 95.3%; sales per customer: 102.0%).  In June, Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. opened 6 stores and closed 4 stores.
