Total sales at all stores in July 2013 amounted to 186,077 million yen, 103.3% of the same period last year. Consolidated net sales of existing stores were 100.7% of the same period last year.  Average daily sales per store (all stores) amounted to 570 thousand yen. The average number of customer per store (existing stores) was 941, 100.3% of the same period last year. The average spending per customer (existing stores) was 579 yen, 100.4% of the same period last year.

 

Consolidated net sales of existing stores exceeded sales of the previous year, led by strong sales of high-margin fast food category, improved product competitiveness and active promotional activities. Some regions in Japan suffered from bad weather in late July, but the weather condition remained relatively fair throughout Japan. This also contributed to increased sales with more customers visiting our stores.

 

A significant increase in the number of new stores by our competitors continues to drive greater competition. However, our profitability remains its steady growth, due to improved sales in our fast food category. In addition, data analysis of Ponta cards contributed to offering better merchandise assortments that meet the needs of our customers.

 

 

Existing stores sales by merchandise category were as follows:

 

Sales of over-the-counter fast food category significantly exceeded the amount of previous year’s, due to favorable sales of in-store prepared foods such as ‘Frozen Sweets (different flavors of sorbet) and freshly-brewed coffee, MACHI Café.

 

Sales of sandwiches and other chilled bakery category significantly exceeded the amount of previous year’s, led by sales of new products such as bran sandwich developed for health-conscious customers.

 

The delicatessen category exceeded the previous year’s amount. In particular, prepared food categories recorded a significant year-on-year growth led by expansion of customer base by targeting female and senior customers.

 

Sales of desert and bakery category exceeded the previous year’s amount driven by "The Sanrio Fair," featuring Sanrio characters.

 

The ice cream category exceeded the previous year’s amount driven by ‘UCHI café’ brand which are ‘Gyutto milk’ (creamy, rich milk) and ‘rich milk and waffle cone.

 

Sales of cigarettes continued to decline below the amount of a year ago just as it did last month.

 

As of July 31, 2013, the Lawson Group had 11,308 stores in Japan, including 109 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 1,204 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

 

Existing store sales of Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. amounted to 97.0% of same period last year (number of customers: 96.6%; spending per customer: 100.5%). In July, Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. opened no store and closed no store.

 

Lawson is promoting "The Sanrio Fair," featuring characters of Sanrio, from June 11, 2013 to September 2, 2013.
