The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in May is as follows*1. Total sales at all stores in May amounted to 207,380 million yen, a 2.7% up year on year. Existing-store sales fell 4.5% year on year over the same period and average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 504 thousand yen. The average number of customers per store (existing stores) fell 3.7% and the average customer spend at existing stores fell 0.8%*2 .

In May, the ticket sales including concerts, sporting events, etc., and gift card sales accounted for approximately 2.0 point decrease year on year of existing-store sales. Except for these effects, existing-store sales fell 2.4% compared with the previous year.
Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Thanks to sales increases of “Onigiri-ya” rice balls and boxed meals series rich in vegetables, sales of rice products category increased year on year.

Sales of dessert category performed well due to preferable sales of seasonable new products originally developed such as a small cake with melon decorated.

As a result of successful outcome from our initiatives such as to expand product offering in this category, sales of daily delivered food and frozen food items increased year on year.

Cigarette sales accounted for approximately 0.5 point decrease year on year of existing-store sales in May.

The Lawson Group operated 14,214 convenience stores in Japan at the end of May 2018, including 141 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 805 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales fell 3.0% year on year in May (customer numbers:
-4.7%; customer spend: +1.7%). In May, we opened 4 stores and close 2 stores.

The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan (LAWSON and NATURAL LAWSON)*1 in May fell 4.6% year on year.
From March 6, 2018, “GOCHISO-LAWSON (Enjoy meals from Lawson)” products, including such daily products as boxed meals, rice balls, prepared foods, salads, and soup, have been available at each Lawson store.

Lawson is promoting the ”Rilakkuma Spring Campaign” until June 18, 2018 to help broaden its customer base.

Note 1: Lawson, Inc. sales include sales generated by LAWSON stores (excluding Lawson Okinawa, Inc., Lawson Minami-Kyusyu, Inc., Lawson Kochi, Inc., and Lawson Sanin, Inc.), NATURAL LAWSON stores, and LAWSON STORE100 stores. The LAWSON operation in Japan consists of sales generated by LAWSON, Inc. minus sales generated by LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Note 2: Total sales include gross sales of tickets, postal packets, gift cards, and other service-related businesses.
