The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in July is as follows*1. Total sales at all stores in July amounted to 226,323 million yen, an 4.3% up year on year. Existing-store sales fell 2.6% year on year over the same period and average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 547 thousand yen. The average number of customers per store (existing stores) fell 2.8% and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 0.3%*2 .

In July, the average customer spend at existing store exceeded the level of the previous year, although the number of customers per store (existing stores) was negatively affected by heavy rain in western area of Japan and typhoon damage.
The ticket sales including concerts, sporting events, etc., and gift card sales accounted for approximately 1.5 point decrease year on year of existing-store sales. Except for these effects, existing-store sales fell 1.1% compared with the previous year*2.

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Thanks to sales increases of “Onigiri-ya” rice balls and boxed meals series rich in vegetables, sales of rice products category increased dramatically year on year.

Sales of noodle category increased year on year, thanks to favorable sales of cold noodles because of the high temperature on average in July and noodles series rich in vegetables.

Sales of ice cream category performed extremely well due to strong sales of UchiCafé fruit bars.

As a result of successful outcome from our initiatives such as to expand product offering in this category, sales of daily delivered food and frozen food items increased year on year.

Cigarette sales slightly pressed down the existing-store sales in July.

The Lawson Group operated 14,289 convenience stores in Japan at the end of July 2018, including 141 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 791 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales fell 1.8% year on year in July (customer numbers: -3.7%; customer spend: +2.0%). In July, we opened 1 stores and close 15 stores.

The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan (LAWSON and NATURAL LAWSON)*1 in July decreased 2.7% year on year.

Lawson is promoting ”Snoopy Summer Campaign” until September 24, 2018 to help broaden its customer base.

Note 1: Lawson, Inc. sales include sales generated by LAWSON stores (excluding Lawson Okinawa, Inc., Lawson Minami-Kyusyu, Inc., Lawson Kochi, Inc., and Lawson Sanin, Inc.), NATURAL LAWSON stores, and LAWSON STORE100 stores. The LAWSON operation in Japan consists of sales generated by LAWSON, Inc. minus sales generated by LAWSON STORE100 stores.
