The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in April amounted to 166,408 million yen, a 3.7% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 2.3% over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 519 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) fell 0.8% to 829, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 3.1% to 585 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 rose 2.4% in April.

 

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

 

Special product promotions in the evening and at night, redesigned salad items (launched in February) and pasta salad items gave a considerable boost to year-on-year sales of delicatessen category.

 

Sales of MACHI café were well especially after changing of café latte’s price and running commercials on TV. Sales of doughnut also contributed to over-the-counter fast foods category.

 

Thanks to sustained effort in the evening and at night, it rise in year-on-year sales of the alcohol and nibblies category in April.

 

The rice crackers and baked goods category recorded a sharp gain in sales year on year, thanks to add new products of original healthy sweets marketed under the NATURAL LAWSON brand.

 

Sales of cigarette*2 accounted for approximately 1 point of the year-on-year rose in existing-store sales in April.

 

The Lawson Group operated 12,056 convenience stores in Japan at the end of April 2015, including 116 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 907 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

 

Regarding LAWSON STORE100, which we are working on the process of restructuring, existing-store sales rose 0.5% year on year in April (customer numbers: -1.9%; customer spend: +2.5%). In April, we opened no store and closed 124 stores.

 

Lawson is promoting the ‘Rilakkuma Spring Campaign’ from March 3 to June 8 to help broaden its customer base.

 

 

Note 1: Lawson, Inc. sales include sales generated by LAWSON stores (excluding Lawson Okinawa, Inc.,  Lawson Minami-Kyusyu, Inc. and Lawson Kochi, Inc.), NATURAL LAWSON stores and LAWSON MART/LAWSON STORE100 stores. The LAWSON operation in Japan, equating to the non-consolidated performance disclosed up until January 2014, consists of sales generated by LAWSON, Inc. minus sales generated by LAWSON MART/LAWSON STORE100 stores.

Note 2 : On March 31, after cash registers are closed to count daily sales at stores, sales for the remainder of the day, up to 24 pm, are booked on April 1, and are included in sales of April.
